Bereavements – creating a special keepsake

When a loved one passes away it is an emotional and busy time. There are so many things to organise and think about and often after many weeks have passed by, people have regrets about things they should have done differently or wished they had thought about.

Having the opportunity to collect and preserve items and create keepsakes is often an afterthought or not a thought at all, but with a little extra planning and knowledge from your Funeral Home or because you have heard of us before, we can help create special keepsakes of your loved one for family members that you’ll have to cherish for years to come.

The point at which the fingerprint needs to be taken is before your loved one has been buried or cremated. Often if families have heard of us before, we can take fingerprints at home or at a hospice. No need to worry though if this is not an option – it’s a stressful time for everyone and we can easily arrange with your funeral director to pop in and take your loved one’s fingerprints. Time can be of the essence though, so we will do our best to create these special keepsakes for you. All we need to know is the shape, size and how many you want. It’s important to note that we do not take a mould of your loved one’s fingerprint, therefore we can not create endless amounts of prints down the track. The silver is rolled out onto a board and your loved one’s finger is gently pressed into the silver. This becomes your actual pendant (or chosen piece i.e. cufflinks, keyrings etc). If you are wanting 5 items, then we have to push your loved one’s fingerprint into the silver 5 times. There is no opportunity to create more pieces once your loved one has been buried or cremated.

Once the prints have been taken, it’s usually best for you and your family to focus on the farewell of your loved one. We have all we need at this point and any other items you want to add such as chains can be worked out at a later date. We can either deal with you directly or via your Funeral Director.

We have created so many pieces of jewellery for loved ones over the years and it is so satisfying to see how special these keepsakes are to people.

If you think this could be something that would interest you or your family and you have more questions, please feel free to get in touch with us. We are here to help you create precious keepsakes of your loved one.
